Dixie Holiday Tradition

A Dixie Holiday Tradition

By: Chet Norman

During the holiday season, there is a special spirit that fills the air. As a university town, St. George has always had a special spirit; the Dixie Spirit. The Dixie Spirit is unique and is something everyone can feel.

Over the years as Dixie College has grown becoming Dixie State University (DSU), it has become common among students and alumni to feel that special connection to Dixie; their alma mater.

Dixie State University’s Student Alumni Association (SAA) has worked hand in hand with the DSU Alumni Association to spread this Dixie Spirit through traditionally decorating the Alumni House Event Center with Christmas lights and lighting a custom made “D” that shines as a bright symbol of the Dixie Spirit.

Last year was the first annual lighting of the “D” at the Alumni House. SAA President Chet Norman, and Student Relations Vice President Kaden McDonald, were the creators of the Dixie Spirit “D”. Through their hard work and desire to help the Dixie Spirit shine, it is obvious to see the impact Dixie has in conjunction with the community’s support over the last 103 years of its existence.

SAA-SIGNATURE-LOGOCome enjoy the Dixie Spirit and take in the special opportunity to see this holiday tradition. The Alumni House Event Center is located at 684 East 500 South, across from the main entrance of the Hansen Stadium. The Event Center is available to rent for any occasion.
