Margaret Truman Marshall was born to the Alma and Alta Truman family and grew up in St. George. She and her siblings were raised attending many Dixie College functions where they developed their love for Dixie. While attending she met her husband, Rolland Marshall who was playing baseball for Coach Allred at Dixie.
She was the first vice-president for the student body over assemblies and programs. She also was a member of the Rebelettes, and was very involved in campus activities. She graduated from Dixie Jr. College in 1965. It was a magical time in Dixie’s history when Marion Bentley’s musical productions took place and Coach Sark Arslanian’s undefeated football team won the ICAC National Championship title.
After her time at Dixie, she pursued a Bachelors of Elementary Education from Utah State. Shortly after she received her degree, she moved to Salt Lake Valley where she taught for Murray School District for 30 years. During this time she married Rolland and raised four incredible children. She is the proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is an active member of the LDS Church and has served in various leadership positions.
After retiring in 1999, she returned to the red sands of Dixie. She started teaching for the Washington County School District at Red Mountain Elementary. It was a dream come true to teach in her own home-town. Her total teaching career lasted 41 years. In spite of retirement, she continues to find opportunities to teach and learn. She is currently serving as a Vice President of Alumni Relations for the Dixie State University Alumni Board. She has the privilege of being on a working alumni board with other very dedicated Dixie Alum. She loves the interaction she gets with students. She gets this opportunity from being on the alumni board helping with the Student Alumni Association (SAA).
Looking back at her Dixie Jr. College experience she is grateful for the life-long relationships, skills, and knowledge she obtained there. They have laid a foundation for the road she has so far traveled during her life. She has a very strong passion and love for Dixie and the Dixie Spirit!
